I decided that a good sub genre for us to base our film on would be psychological horror/thriller, this is so that we could use our knowledge of media concepts such as mise en scène, cinematography, editing and sound to create the first two minutes of a film that builds up a characters fears and emotional instability to build tension while playing on archetypal* shadow characteristics portrayed by threat. We are going to aim to create discomfort by exposing common psychological vulnerabilities and fears which the audience would be able to relate to easier than a sub genre such as vampires/witchcraft/wolves/zombies.
*An archetype is a universally understood symbol, term, statement, or pattern of behaviour, a prototype upon which others are copied, patterned, or emulated.
